Despite having lost to them in previous years, the Purbeck year 9 rugby team showed their progress, development and vigour to hold on to beat a very big and powerful Lytchett side by a singular point.
Purbeck were very much the stronger side in the first half running in 4 tries to Lytchett’s one with score 20-7 at half time. Joe Bohane crash ball off a timely pass from Henry Wright to beat 4 players to score under the posts. After an excellent break from Bertie Warren (a common theme of the afternoon), Vinnie Wright had supported strongly to clear the opposition player out the way and secure the ball. Archie Burt then received the ball, dummied through the gap and powered over putting the ball on the line to score. Michal Barry finished a lovely flowing move down the left-hand side, side stepping the full back to score in the corner. In the final play of the half, Jack Lowry received the kick off catching the high ball in his own 22. Resultantly he then weaved in and out of the opposition players, side stepped the full back to score with a celebratory dive under the posts.
A Home Office study has found that approximately 350 children are injured in accidental fires every year 🔥 Naturally, this highlights the importance of educating young people on fire safety – ensuring they're aware of what precautions they can take to keep themselves protected around flammable materials and naked flames.
As part of our behaviour policy, in every lesson, each student is given a score. Students receiving a 7 have exceeded expectations for the lesson. The following week the names of the students will be compiled and they will each receive 7 house points. Shortly after this, they will be presented with their Super 7 wristband which provides them with:
Queue jump for themselves and one friend for all break times and lunch times throughout the week.
An invite for a Friday hot chocolate with the Headteacher and House Leaders.
All students have a chance to receive a Headteacher’s high five each week. This is the equivalent of gaining 5 house points in one go, and is awarded for something that a student has done that is exceptional. Winners should go along to the Mr Darley’s office at breaktime on a Friday and receive a high five and a chocolate as well (if Mr Darley hasn’t eaten them all!)

The Purbeck School works in partnership with White House Guardians (WHG) to host cultural exchange students from many countries including Germany, Italy, Brazil and Chile.
For the first time in 8 years, Purbeck have now progressed to the final 64 schools in the Continental Tyres National Cup. This pitches them against either Ringwood School or Portsmouth Grammar in the next round, after a narrow but fully deserved victory over Clayesmore.
The sun was shining and the pitch glorious, the field was set for a cracker of a game. For once, Purbeck started strongly, powering up the pitch directly from the kick off, with Ren Elliot putting in a massive tackle to set the tone. After going through the phases, Jack Brickstock made a break, with a Clayesmore player making a high tackle. TJ Shearer got the ball and tapped quickly to score the opening try of the game. Clayesmore then went straight up the other end and scored in the corner, having drawn Purbeck one side and then to the other stretching the defence. The game then became a battle of the contact in the middle of the pitch, and after a quick turnover, the ball was whipped wide to Jack Lowry who sprinted home into the corner. Clayesmore responded again quickly from a quick lineout, but after some quick thinking from Lewis Cooper, Purbeck went blind from a score for TJ to bundle over for his second. Half Time: 15-14.
As a new cohort of students joins our sixth form each autumn, we introduce them to our ‘grow ethos’: that is, each of us as individuals should recognise the importance of taking every opportunity to develop both our academic knowledge and our experiential skills. This week, as in past years, the new students were delighted to receive a plant each for them to individually nourish – and grow! We would like to once again thank our partners in this project, Holme for Gardens, for so kindly donating the wonderful plants to our Year 12 students – it is really generous and helps to tangibly forward our core values. Let’s hope that the students now demonstrate their green-fingered abilities!
