Year 9 and 10 pupils visited Sky Studios.
A group of year 9 and 10 pupils visited the Sky Studios in Osterley to explore the world of media and broadcasting. After a very early start, we were welcomed into the huge complex of Sky, which seemed like a whole town in itself.
We were assigned a set of studios where we initially researched the topic ‘Our Future’, how changing technology will affect our lives. The pupils chose to explore the topic of AI and its application in schools.
In four groups, each pupil took on a specific role, such as producer, director, editor, screen writer, camera operator etc. They then created an entire broadcast, including writing the script, rehearsing, filming, and editing the final material to become one cohesive news report.
Sky focus on the three Cs of creativity, collaboration and communication, and the pupils had to utilise these skills both within their own groups and across the separate groups, as well as learning to use the state-of-the-art equipment in the studios. As if all that wasn’t enough excitement, we were also visited by Ruth Cadbury, the local MP who was visiting Sky that day, who watched our groups at work and chatted to the pupils, and had a tour of the Sky Sports studios, where we watched the live broadcast going out, and chatted with Mike Wedderburn, Sky Sports presenter and the very first person to present on day one of Sky’s broadcasting.
One of the most interesting aspects of the day was a talk from two people on Sky’s graduate scheme, informing our pupils of the various routes into media and the opportunities available. A very valuable day in so many ways.er some content for your news story here.
