Y8 Studland Fieldwork Enrichment
On Friday 29th 47 Y8 students went to Studland Bay on the second of the Y8 Geography Enrichment Days. Students were very lucky with a mostly sunny day.
Students received a talk from the National Trust all about Studland including the wildlife and WW2 history. The Dorset Heaths Partnership then ran a 2-hour session in the dunes investigating sand dune formation, students used quadrats, light meters, anemometer, clinometers and meter rules to complete this investigation. Students also learnt different bird calls and hunted for fungi. Thank you to Sarah and her team for organising this. Students were also very excited by the blow outs in the sand dunes and there was a great deal of running around!
This group was very energetic and we walked along to Middle Beach where we discussed the effectiveness of coastal management strategies and saw the power of erosion in action. We then headed to Fort Henry, where the students learnt about the practice D-Day landings and enjoyed exploring the narrow bunker! We then had a slightly later lunch along the coast path towards Old Harry Rocks and students had fun playing football and rugby before a leisurely walk back to Knoll Beach. #DorsetHeaths
