  • Year 7 Town Sports Athletics 2025

    Published 08/07/25

A group of girls and boys in year 7 entered to compete at Kings Park, Bournemouth, in the annual Town Sports Athletics competition. All students competed in at least one track and one field event, with the year 7 team as a whole finishing 4th out of 12 schools. Competitors achieved points for the top 10 positions, all of which were accumulated in the final scores.

As well as all the teams contributing to the overall points total, there were some individual performances that deserve a special mention. Evie Travers came 2nd in the 200m, but beat the school record by a whole 2 seconds! Johnny Lay ran a PB (29.05s) in the 200m and came first with a nervy finish out dipping his opponent on the finish line. Alfie Fooks broke a 10-year school record in the 1500m, running 5.34 minutes. In the field events, Martha Sharpe finished 3rd in the Shot Putt with Evie Travers breaking another school record in the Long Jump by 19cm, eventually finishing second.

Overall, a lovely day out of school with an exceptional bunch of students trying their best in every event.

    Published 07/07/25

As part of our behaviour policy, in every lesson, each student is given a score.  Students receiving a 7 have exceeded expectations for the lesson. The following week, the names of the students will be compiled, and they will each receive 7 house points. Shortly after this, they will be presented with their Super 7 wristband which provides them with:

    1. Queue-jump for themselves and one friend for all break times and lunch times throughout the week.
    2. An invitation for a Friday hot chocolate with the Headteacher and House Leaders.

  • Making a Splash!

    Published 07/07/25

For the final activities day, many students in Year 12 chose to visit one of our favourite local attractions, Dorset Water Park. The pictures speak for themselves and confirm that the Mud Trail is certainly very muddy. Please be advised that there may be a run on washing detergent in Purbeck supermarkets this weekend.

The week has been really good fun and we look forward to doing something similar with next year’s students.

  • Good for the MIND: Year 12 sponsored walk

    Published 04/07/25

On the second day of Purbeck activities, students from the sixth form engaged in a ‘Ten pounds for ten miles’ sponsored walk in support of the charity Dorset MIND. Organised by head of year Mr Smith, the party headed out into Wareham Forest equipped with sunblock, water and biscuits, and walked the route in four hours.

As buzzards soared in a cloudless sky, we agreed that we live in a beautiful part of the world and are pleased to have raised around £300 for a charity close to our hearts. Many students stayed on to enjoy an informal barbeque and picnic on the rear lawns. Well done to all those involved!

  • Weston Walk with The National Trust

    Published 02/07/25

As part of Purbeck’s Activities Week, a number of Year 12 students completed the ‘Weston Walk’ from Worth Matravers to the coast. The students were led by The National Trust’s Jill Bailey, who provided information about the local habitat and the Trust’s conservation projects in the area. The students took to their tasks of bramble clearing and litter picking with enthusiasm, and all were rewarded with what must be the best pasties in the south, sponsored by The National Trust, upon their return to The Square and Compass pub. Head of Sixth Form, Simon Holmes, said,"This is another great example of our partnership with the Trust, and it is wonderful to spend time together along the coast. The students have done a fine job on the land, culminating in refreshments at the best pub in the world!’ Only soft drinks were had.

Purbeck Sixth Formers are engaged in a range of activities this week, including volunteering, completing a sponsored walk which raises money for the charity Dorset MIND, environmental work and visits to both local and national theme parks.

  • Environmental Leaders Present to Local Conservation Leaders

    Published 25/06/25

Our Environmental Leadership course pupils have been working hard on one of their projects which has involved canvassing their peers on their experience of nature in the local vicinity.

They assisted in preparing questionnaires which they presented to their tutor groups, one being qualitative in form and the other quantitative.

They worked extremely hard in collating the results at speed and presenting them in a visual display, ready for a visit from a group of representatives from local conservation and wildlife charities.

They presented their findings to the visitors, both in an informal chat around their displays, and a more formal Q&A panel style discussion.

Through this project they have learnt a variety of skills, including data collection and presentation, and been taken way out of their comfort zone in developing their public speaking skills.

This project was a huge challenge and the pupils rose to it admirably. Many thanks to our visitors for coming along to enable our pupils to share their findings with you.
