Y9 Pine Pulling – Swift & Skylark
14th November 2024 was the 2nd day of the whole of Year 9’s Pull-a-pine conservation work, where the final 85 students got to head out onto the heathland.
Some highlights included students making their own bedding and ‘blankets’ out of the pines and the beautiful views across Poole Harbour from our spot on the ridge.
Students completed conservation work, specifically the pulling up of pine trees which encourages heathland regeneration and protects natural habitats. This is a valuable contribution to the conservation of our local area whilst also being a fun and educational activity. Students had talks from the National Trust and Dorset Heaths about the importance of looking after our heathlands.
Thank you again to National Trust Purbeck Countryside for providing free coach transport for our Year 9’s and organising the day. Thank you to Dorset Heaths for helping with the days and their great talks about the animals and plants that live on the heathland.
